Air Dry Clay Magnets, Charms + Dishes: Part 2

with Rebecca Holopter

$90

2 Part Series: November 7th + 14th

In this two part series, students will have the chance to make a number of items from their 1lb block of clay. Magnets, charms, miniatures, trinket dishes - the world is your oyster! Students will then leave their projects to dry at the studio.

The following week, we will be painting + sealing our projects! Students will work with acrylic paint, matte or gloss sealant, and will have the chance to explore resin sealing as well for that extra glossy finish.

Please note that air dry clay is not food or pet safe, even when finished.

In 2015 she drew and animal a day (maintaining the practice while drinking wine in Italy!) and in 2016 she extended the practice with a watercolor painting a day. Intro to Wood Furniture Refinishing | Part 1

Intro to Wood Furniture Refinishing

with Anna Lucas of Bouclé Home

$350 - Two Day Workshop

November 16th 3pm-7pm & November 17th 3pm-5pm

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of turning an outdated small piece of furniture into one that you’re happy to see in your home!

We’ll go over: Stripping old paint and varnish, sanding properly while respecting the wood, assessing quality of wood and deciding on re-staining or re-painting, steps to proper staining and/or painting, finishing and protecting for everyday use. We will also learn how to use some basic power tools like a sander, and safety precautions around chemicals.

You’ll bring a small piece of furniture of your choice to work on:

Pick one from your own home that you’ve always wanted to update!

Thrift one (Facebook marketplace always has plenty of cheap offerings like side tables, chairs, mirrors, little shelves, that just need a little TLC (happy to help you source a great piece, but with a little research it’s very easy to find something good in the $20-50 range)

I’ll bring a couple of pieces I have thrifted to the workshop that will be available at cost as a plan B (but it’s really much more fun if you bring one you’re really excited about).

Please note that if your piece is covered in multiple coats of the old finish to strip, it will leave less time for the refinishing part of the workshop.

We won’t have the time to work on damages (like big dents, or structural/stability issues). We’ll be focusing more on updating wood color and uplifting damaged surfaces with paint.

Things can get a little messy so wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes, that you don’t mind staining (and/or an apron), wear your nails somewhat short if possible (as we’ll be wearing protective gloves for some steps), your hair up, and remove jewelry before getting started!

Our Policies:

  • Please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early for your workshop. Workshops start on time. If you are more that 15 minutes late for your class, you may forfeit your chance to take the class.

  • You may cancel for a refund up to 21 days before the workshop. After that, workshop fees are not refundable.

  • We reserve the right cancel or reschedule a workshop with fewer than 4 sign ups.

  • Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.

  • If you are sick, please stay home. Call or email to let us know that you are not coming.

  • Last minute cancellations are extremely challenging for our guest teachers. Often times, materials have been meticulously prepared ahead of time. Keep in mind that late cancellations are a financial burden on these very special artists.

Initially a creative strategist and photographer, Anna has always been passionate about thrifting, finding the right piece of furniture for the right place or the right person, and helping her friends and clients turn a boring piece into a special one.

With Bouclé Home, she created a space to help more people (re)discover the beauty in the pieces they already own, and nurture a circular economy system by sharing her ideas and techniques, sourcing, buying and selling vintage pieces, and redesigning furniture to give it a second life.

Sewing Level II: Sew a Tee Shirt

Sewing Level II: Sew a Tee Shirt

Sewing Level II: Sew a Tee Shirt

$150

In this workshop, we will construct a not-so-basic basic – a cotton tee shirt! This class will explore the nuances of sewing knit cotton jersey, a stretch material that behaves differently from more structured woven fabrics.  If you have found yourself struggling to make the jump to knits, this workshop is for you!  We will spend lots of time working with a serger, learn to attach a rib collar, and will use stretch-friendly finishing stitches that can be done on any home machine.

Choose from two different tee shirt styles – a classic tee or a boxy crop.  White cotton jersey and 1x1 rib will be provided (both fabrics milled locally in Los Angeles), and we will sew with cotton thread so the shirts can be dyed to the color of your choice after the workshop.

This class is perfect for the intermediate beginner who already has basic experience and competency with a sewing machine. Some experience with a serger is ideal, but not necessary.

Please refer to the size chart below to select your style and size. You will prompted to enter this at checkout!

My name is Jimena, I'm an oil painter based in Los Angeles, California.
My artistic journey began in Spain, where I studied Fine Art and immersed myself in various workshops, trying to absorb as much as I could from the masters. This summer, I had the pleasure of teaching a workshop in Italy, sharing my passion for painting with others.
My work blends realism with a dreamlike with a bit of an impressionistic touch— drawing inspiration from nature, folklore, films, poems, and everyday life, I use loose brushstrokes to let light and movement flow freely across the canvas, creating a fantasy-like quality in everyday subjects while maintaining a realistic foundation.

Oil Painting Workshop: Mastering Skin Tones & Expressive Brushwork

Oil Painting Workshop: Mastering Skin Tones & Expressive Brushwork

with Jimena Agra

$250

In celebration of Halloween, we’ll be painting a fantasy-inspired portrait—ethereal and full of character. You’ll learn to mix realistic skin tones while embracing loose, expressive brushstrokes to bring your painting to life. Whether you’re after realism or just want to loosen up, this class will help you master the balance between control and creativity. Plus, you’ll leave with your own Halloween masterpiece!

In this workshop, you will:

—Learn the art of mixing skin tones in an Alla Prima style (which is simply wet on wet painting)

—Explore techniques for loosening your brushwork, creating soft edges and expressive strokes.

—Dive into the balance between detail and spontaneity, allowing the paint to flow naturally.

Be guided step-by-step in creating your own portrait, with references I will be providing for you to choose from :)

—Connect with other amazing fellow artists!

The second portion of the class will focus on polishing, filing, and placing jump rings.  Students will have the chance to learn to solder, use a variety of jewelry making tools, and create a small collection of pure silver charms.  Sterling silver findings will be provided.

Jealous of her brother's ninja turtle drawings, Rebecca's aunt set her down at a young age and said "it's just practice." With this sentiment, Rebecca continued to practice and study art throughout college. In 2015 she drew and animal a day (maintaining the practice while drinking wine in Italy!) and in 2016 she extended the practice with a watercolor painting a day. Since then she has continued with watercolor adding in other art mediums such as embroidery, acrylic, and pastels to explore skin tones and textures in colorful portraits and the freedom in excessive abstracts. This workshop teaches a sampler of sewing skills including sewing, pressing, quilting, zipper installation, and basic bag construction. Students will transform pieces of fabric into their very own fully lined zipper pouch featuring a colorful quilted log cabin block design.

The first session is all about quilting, where students will use the sewing machine, rulers, and rotary cutter to practice piecing, keeping their quilting block square, and quilting the block to soft batting.

In the second session, students will learn bag construction techniques, using their quilted blocks to attach a zipper, add lining, and square off corners, to create a fully lined zipper pouch with no exposed seams.

Great for confident beginners, this class is more about construction techniques than the sewing machine itself. All materials will be provided, fabric selection may differ from sample photos.

She has taught in different mediums for the past 6 years and encourages her students with the same sentiment that was instilled in her - it's all just practice.

Sewing Level II: Quilted Zipper Pouch | Part One

With Anisha Deshmane

$250 - Two Part Series: September 15th + 22nd

Naturally Abstract: Painting with Earth Pigments

Naturally Abstract: Painting with Earth Pigments

with Meg Jorgenson

$120

Join LA based Artist Meg Jorgenson for an exploration of painting with earth pigments.

In this workshop our intention will be to explore visual expression through abstract impressionist painting, with an emphasis on working with paints derived from clay and flora. Through this practice, Meg will share how working with these mediums is a radical means of reintroducing our interconnectedness to ourselves, each other and the land.

Meg Jorgenson is a painter based in Los Angeles. She is known for her meditative works that explore the congruence between natural figuration and poetic abstraction. Her studied experimentation in creating pigments from foraged natural elements creates a sense of refraction with color and texture. Drawing inspiration from ancient parietal painters who used clay-derived paints to communicate as well as the pioneering female artists of spiritualism, Jorgenson utilizes art as a medium to delve into ephemeral moments of the soul. An interplay between the tangible and the subconscious, her work invites the viewer into a transcendental landscape that evolves with the beauty of attention.
