Paint and Sculpt Paper Koinobori

with Shizuka Kusayanagi of Art for All Ages

$65 for one | $105 for two

Koinobori is a carp kite that is flown on Children’s Day, May 5, in Japan. We will use this unique, emoji-established symbol as a basis for exploring the wide range of art techniques in drawing, painting, and (simple) sculpting! I will guide you on how to design a paper Koinobori with as much or as little guidance as you like, with an introduction to color theory, various drawing and painting techniques, and creating a paper pattern for 3D design.

All materials are provided, and kids above 5 are encouraged to attend with an adult. It would be lovely to fly a pair of Koi’s or a family of them!

Our Policies:

  • Please arrive 10 minutes early for your workshop. Workshops start on time. If you are more that 15 minutes late for your class, you may forfeit your chance to take the class.

  • You may cancel for a refund up to 21 days before the workshop. After that, workshop fees are not refundable or transferable.

  • We reserve the right cancel or reschedule a workshop with fewer than 4 sign ups. If you cannot attend the rescheduled date, you will receive a refund.

  • Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.

  • If you are sick, please stay home. Call or email to let us know that you are not coming.

  • Last minute cancellations are extremely challenging for our guest teachers. Often times, materials have been purchased and meticulously prepared ahead of time. Keep in mind that late cancellations are a financial burden on these very special artists.

Shizuka Kusayanagi is a painter, graphic designer, educator, and secret comedian, born in Japan and having spent half of her life in the US, raising half-French kids. She is a mutt of many things and a curious introvert-extrovert.

Shizuka developed Art for All Ages workshops with the purpose of inspiring adults and children alike to intentionally use art-making as a way to develop one’s own voice, broaden perspectives, and foster healthy relationships with oneself and others. Each session is specifically designed to assist the child inside us who wants to play, where the creation process is highly appreciated and experimentation is strongly encouraged.
