Experimental Watercolor: Salt + Meditation
with Julia Hendrickson
$150
This workshop is an opportunity to explore some experimental watercolor techniques. We will orient ourselves in a preliminary study of pigment granulation properties. Then proceed to different application methods: brushes, papers, fingerprints, etc on various surfaces. After this, we will progress to the inclusion of salt, and learn about the hydrophobic and hydrophilic reactions between the surface, pigment, and salt. This technique gives us the opportunity for close observation and meditation. Materials are included, but feel free to bring your favorite brushes and papers for experimentation.
Beginners to Experts welcome.
COVID Safety: we will be requiring masks for this workshop.

Julia Hendrickson is a printmaker working in the contemporary abstract expressionist tradition whose work is constructed through meditative practices. Her primary medium is watercolor (Winsor & Newton Payne's Gray) & salt (Morton's Coarse Kosher) on paper (Rives BFK). Julia works in the tradition of opera Divina, daily work as prayer. She has an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Print | Media & an MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary. As a professor, she has the opportunity to lead reflection with university students about the role of art in the world. While waiting for paint to dry, she takes long walks, documents flowers, & reads a lot.
