Contemporary Turkish Marbling Ebru

with Shizuka Kusayanagi of Art for All Ages

$110 for one | $170 for two with a shared vat

Come experience the captivating art of marbling, where you float vibrant inks on water and create one-of-a-kind patterns to be printed on various materials! We will be taking a contemporary approach to Turkish Ebru, an ancient art form that dates back to the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century.

For this special occasion, we will create various marbled patterns on paper and then print original designs on cotton totes and drawstring pouches.

The class is specially formulated for people of all art experiences. Using non-toxic, water-based inks, as well as tools you can easily find at home or in art stores, you will learn all the steps and materials to marble on various substrates, besides paper and fabric!

Come have fun by yourself, or share a marbling vat with your friend for a discount, but no less fun ; ) After this comprehensive class, you will be ready to continue practicing marbling at home!

Not only will you be able to make stunning, no-fail designs, but you will surely enjoy the process of creating your own color palette, splattering layers of vibrant colors on water, seeing the ink float and flow, and mind-dancing between manipulating the pattern and letting the water take its course. It's all about playing, trusting your intuition, and having a fun experience of creating together with others!

All materials are provided in the workshop. Feel free to BYOB!

Shizuka Kusayanagi is a painter, graphic designer, educator, and secret comedian, born in Japan and having spent half of her life in the US, raising half-French kids. She is a mutt of many things and a curious introvert-extrovert.

Shizuka developed Art for All Ages workshops with the purpose of inspiring adults and children alike to intentionally use art-making as a way to develop one’s own voice, broaden perspectives, and foster healthy relationships with oneself and others. Each session is specifically designed to assist the child inside us who wants to play, where the creation process is highly appreciated and experimentation is strongly encouraged.
