Water Based Brush Lettering

Discover the possibilities of brush lettering!

Students will be introduced to working with a flat brush to create a variety of sign painting casual speed alphabets. This workshop is designed for students of all skill levels in order to explore the exciting field of brush lettering.

We'll first learn some fundamental principles of letter formation and then integrate those skills to create posters with water based paint.

Our Policies:

  • Please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early for your workshop. Workshops start on time. If you are more that 15 minutes late for your class, you may forfeit your chance to take the class.

  • You may cancel for a refund up to 21 days before the workshop. After that, workshop fees are not refundable.

  • We reserve the right cancel or reschedule a workshop with fewer than 4 sign ups. If you cannot attend the rescheduled date, you will receive a refund.

  • Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.

  • If you are sick, please stay home. Call or email to let us know that you are not coming.

  • Last minute cancellations are extremely challenging for our guest teachers. Often times, materials have been meticulously prepared ahead of time. Keep in mind that late cancellations are a financial burden on these very special artists.

Emmanuel Sevilla is an artist working in the fields of lettering, calligraphy, sign painting and painting. With a background in visual communication and commercial sign painting, he owned and operated a sign company in Los Angeles. He earned his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, MFA from California College of the Arts, and was tradesman certified in Sign Graphics at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. He has exhibited work in New York, Maine, Los Angeles and the Bay Area. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles teaching full-time at LATTC instructing in the areas of sign making, sign painting and mural painting.
